Boeing B 757-232

1:500

Introduction

With a fleet consisting solely of Boeing 757-200s, Song was established as a Delta subsidiary to also stand its ground in the “low cost market”. All in all, did Delta transfer 33 757s to Song, amongst them the 757-232 with the registration N67171, the original of this to 2,000 items limited model.

The Model

Well now that Song has finally disbanded we now get the Song aircraft in the 1:500 scale. The 757 mould has been around for quite some time now and after years of having issues with trying to get the right 757 mould to sit properly when they came out with the New Generation vesion they finally solved that problem and have a true to scale 757 mould. The fusealge dimensions are correct and the model is well done. The aircraft sits at the proper height and is not too low unlike the old generation mould.

The Song livery is hit or miss depending on each person's personal taste. Personally I thought of the livery as modern and unique. Herpa has done a good job replicaiting the green livery to the model and correctly matches with the window line. The doors as you can see are either outlined in white or grey depending on the background color and carry the additional details which include the new door handle details which is a nice added feature that is seen on this latest batch of models.

When I noticed the engines on this model something seemed a bit odd. The engines seem to have a CF6 shape to them instead of the PW shape. The engines start out with a large inlet and decrease in size while the actual engine cowling should start small increase in size and then thin out once again to a smaller size which it clearly does not do on this model. The engine exhaust does not carry the two tone exhaust that has been seen on some of the newer models but does carry the darker interior of the engines.

The window line is printed at the correct heigh on the aircraft and is essential as it is necessary to line up with the the green lines on the fuselage. The flysong.com titles are clearly printed against the green background in the white color with minimal bleed between the darker background color. The wings are well moulded and are thin which is true to the actual aircraft. The colors are two tone on the wings which is true to the actual aircraft.

The vertical stabalizer is moulded in plastic which allows for the light to transfer through it. The Song titles are clearly printed on the tail in white with the tail number printed at the top. The leading edge is nicely painted in silver which glisents off of the light. The APU exaust is pritned on this model in the darker shade of grey then the rear of the model. The registration and flag are both clearly printed however the flag seems a bit faded and could be darker in color.

Final Thoughts

Overall this model is well done, it was important for the window line to line up with the green lines on the fuselage and once Herpa matched that the details followed in for a standard Herpa model. The engines need to be redone but once that is done Herpa has a near perfect mould.
