Herpa Romavia Bae 146-200 1:500
Introduction | | In 1991, the Romanian charter company was split off from the state-owned Tarom as a private company. Besides three BAC 1-11/500s, produced in Romania, it also operates the last European passenger Boeing 707, which, however, can only be used on government missions. The original of this model is the BAe 146-200 with the registration YR-BEA, that was added to the fleet last May. | The Model | | | Romavia has not a colorful livery but more of an eligant livery. This is due in part to the blue cheatline going down the fuselage of the aircraft however the lines seem to be waving up and down the fuselage instead of a straight line that curves upwards towards the rear of thefuselage. Herpa has replicated correctly the rear of the fuselage however the main part of the fuselage the blue lines to not seem straight and could have had a better execution. | | | Herpa continues to pump out the regional jets and this one is of Romavia which belongs to the government of Romania. Now to discuss the mould, it's showing its age and need for improvement. In the day and age of seamless overwing gaps that this model is calling for to give the top of the fuselage a nice clean look. The rear of the fuselage is overall well done with the vertical stabalizer that leads all the way up to the wing. This area needs to be work to help be smoothed out as it looks quite crude in its current state. | | | The Romavia titles are correctly placed in reference to the window line and the door is corre`tly placed with the lower blue cheatline. The cockpit windows however are completely off from the actual aircraft and have an extreme squint between the two center windows. This mostly has to do with the shape of the nose of the model which is also off and needs to be reworked. The nose gear is simply a stub on the nose of the aircraft and it is time that it is reworked to be that of the quality of the much newer CRJ700 mould. | | | The engines are decent consdiering the size of the model they fit sungly into the pylon and now have the darker interior of the engines but are still missing the two tone exhaust. The pylosn are moulded as a part of the wing and come out smoothly from the bottom of the wing. The next major issue is that Herpa uses one mould for the entire Bae/Avro line of models. This model is of the -300 mould however the airraft is of a -200. Hopefully in the future Herpa will have seperate moulds for the various Bae/Avro aircraft instead of making due with one mould for three different airframes. | | | The model does include however details such as the APU exhaust and door handles which are nice additionds and brings some life to this small model. The registration and Romanian flag are clearly printed on the fuselage however it is just slightly off from the window line and I believe this has to do with it being the incorrect mould for the aircraft. The Romavia logo on the tail is well done and true to the actual aircraft in placement. | |
