Introduction

In 1988 Asiana Airlines was founded in South Korea. From day one they focused on the most up-to-date flying equipment. Today, the airline is part of the Star Alliance as the third Asian member. The original Boeing 777- 28E/ER, bearing the registration code HL-7596, was the first of ten of the big twinjet slated to join the fleet.

The Model

Here comes the first Asiana model from the Herpa line up in a very long time. This is one of the workhorses of the Asiana fleet the 777-200 and here it comes to us finally in the 1:500 scale to compete against the couple of year olds StarJets model and it does not dissapoint. The 777-200 from the Herpa line up is a very strong mould that has the correct fuselage dimensions and also has the correct shape of the fuselage which is even more important then the dimensions itself.

The cockpit windows are well placed and are clearly outlined in the silver window frames. The window line is printed at the correct heigh and as you can see the doors also are well placed. The doors not have the additional door details placed in them which include but are not limited to door handles. The Asiana titles are well placed as is the Unicef logo below the window line. The Star Alliance logo is printed next to the cockpit and is clear and well placed.

Some manufactures have had a difficult time replicating the Asiana color but Herpa has done a very well good job in replicating the correct color as can be seen on this model. At times there is some bleed between the darker shade and the white underbelly however there is no overlap on this model and it looks to be very well done. The cheatline is also well don and goes across the fuselage in the correct position and has no overlap issues towards the nose or the rear of the fuselage.

The wings are well moulded and are connected with the under wing seam however it is very tight and hardly noticeable unlike the A320 series of models. The wings are printed correctly in the all grey layout with the registration clearly printed on the wing. The engines are also very well moulded and connect snugly into the pylon. Herpa has now included the two tone exaust on this model which is a nice additional feature that we've been calling for, for a long time. Keep up the additional details!

As you can see here as stated earlier the doors now carry additional detail which can be more clearly seen here. The tail is well moulded and the stripes on the tail have no overlap and are printed clearly against the grey background. The Korean flag is clearly printed with no distortion with the darker background. The APU exaust is printed on the reverse of the rear of this model which is true to the actual aircraft. As you can see the Boeing 777-200 titles and registration are clearly printed and are in the correct position.

Final Thoughts

This is another well done Herpa model that has impressed me in this batch of releases. Herpa has done a good job replicating this to the actual aircraft and the 777-200 mould has always been a good mould for Herpa and this model comes together nicely. Two Thumbs Up!
