 Description
Herpa States: The Schweizer Fliegertruppe had existed since the break-out of WWI in 1914. Due to Europe’s political development it was declared a branch of the armed services in October 1936. Three Ju-52/3m had been in the fleet since 1939. They were not de-commissioned until 1981, and replaced by helicopters. The original of this model with the military registration A-703 today flies as HB-HOP at Ju-Air.

Model Review
Mould and Assembly: I've been a fan of Herpa's 1:160 scale Junkers for a long time now - and I've seen many of the 1:500 Junkers, but here is the first 1:400. From an assembly perspective the mould is put together rather well; similar assembly to the 1:500 model. The moulded details are more impressive than the 1:500 mould as well. Minimal assembly gaps are a nice plus. The landing gear size and position looks very much on target to the prototype.

Livery: The livery of this model is quite simple, and the colors are replicated well. Due to the simplicity of the livery and how well replicated it is, we would have scored it a 10; however the choice of colors for the cockpit and passenger windows ruin the look of this model. The colors selected are too close to that of the fuselage, making the model look like it doesn't even have windows or a cockpit! A dark grey would have worked much better.

Details: The printed details on this model are almost non-existant. Granted there aren't many things to print on the model, however those that could have been replicated are missing. Additionally the inside of the engine cowlings are white - This area should be a dark grey to replicate the internals of the engine. The lines for the doors are missing as well.

Pluses
  Good mould
Good livery reproduction

Minuses
  Poor amount of details
Improper color selection for windows
Engine cowlings are one color

Stick with the 1:160 Junkers if you love detail, if you must have a JU-52 for your collection, pick up 561570, the Luftansa version of this model - more details and a true classic.
