Poorly Executed Livery on a Beautiful Mould, Friday, 10 October 2008
Great mould, but inaccurately scaled details and inaccurate printing keep this one off my list. Hopefully Herpa will improve this mould and create more of the classic liveries that are seriously lacking in 1:200 scale. Fantastic attempt, but the details and lack of printing accuracy really kill this model.
A Well Executed American Classic, Friday, 10 October 2008
As a collector, I have been very impressed by the variety and accuracy of Herpa models. My only negative response to them so far has been the tendency of some of their plastics to yellow. However, seeing as this model is all painted over, yellowing plastic is a nonissue. The choice of livery on this model was approproate at the time of conception, however, there are two other options for this same livery and aircraft type made by another manufacturer. The more choices the better for the collector, I wonder if the abundance of this particular livery is really necessary. The packagint of Herpa 1:400 modles is usually very good, consisting of foam inserts in the boxes as oppose to the plastic of many of their competitors. If you are interested in classic Americana liveries and aircraft, this model is recommended.
