We bring you another update from Garrit's blog. This time we show you how the first lines were laid for the planes to automatically follow a pre-determined path; all operated by our computer system and we show you another video on the construction of the airport and the runway.
Pictures - the first running lines arise
After putting the first cover plates onto the construction table, I am itching to continue. Finally, I want to lay the running lines and start the next airplane tests...
But before I can send the airplane models on their way again, Christian has to bring the border crossings into line with the other plates. To do so, he is going to fill in all the gaps and then polish it smoothly (picture 1 and 2). This will prevent our airplanes, especially the smaller ones, from getting stuck. Underneath the construction you can see small changes as well: for testing the first cables have been laid.
Also, you can already see the pre-drilled holes for the lights with their exact description (picture 3). But the most important things of course, happen up on the construction table itself. After finishing the precision work, Axel and I can finally lay the driving-wire for the airplanes and vehicles (picture 4). On straight track you move on very quickly, but looking at all those big and small curves, crossroads and turnings, it calls for puzzle work (picture 5 & 6).
Each airplane type has, depending on its size and wheelbase, a different road performance and therefore, sometimes need their own running line.
At certain spots we have to strengthen the driving-wire using additional steel wire, so that our airplanes really take their predetermined path and do not "go to the bad" (picture 7). After strengthening the crossroads we have to test it with different airplanes. Axel and I, we are very anxious if the A380 will really do what we expect him to do (picture 8). Like we feared, it will of course not take the predetermined way. How to solve this problem I actually don't know yet. I will find a solution within the next days! .PNG) .PNG) .PNG)
Gerrit's video blog vol. 3 - Airport and runway
Holidays have always been special for me. On the one hand I'm looking forward to the free time, on the other hand I can hardly let Wunderland go. I was on a ski holiday with my wife and still had to think about the airport and Wunderland. The thought that something might go wrong during my absence wouldn't let me go. After my return, I noticed (a little bit disappointed) that everything went pretty well without me.
In the meantime the model makers dismantled the testing runway and installed the final runway. In Addition, huge parts of the table had to be put together. Now it's moving into the last stretch. From now on the airport will grow from week to week and we will see whether the in my mind invented concept can prove itself in reality. It's yet too early to know that. If everything works out, you can probably see first test flights and clear runs in the next issue of my diary.
But first of all, have fun with this issue!
